Our next stop is the solitary Church of Our Lady of Tikhvin which stands on the outskirts of the town on the site of the former Andreyevsky Monastery founded in the thirteenth century. The church was built j at the end of the seventeenth century and originally had a very tall tent-shaped bell-tower similar to the one we have just seen by the Church of the Ascension. The church's sanctuary has not survived and all that remains is the slender main body of the church. Its walls are j decorated with great taste. Under the kokoshnik cornice there are large triple windows framed by a single surround.
